1 .When does it start?

The Texas Appliance Rebate Program officially begins on April 7, 2010*. (Update 4-1-2010, Reservation start date postponed to April 7, 2010 from April 5, 2010)

2. When does it end?

To Be Determined, waiting for additional information on the state’s website.

3. How exactly does the rebate program work?

Texas residents may apply for up to two rebates per address; however, each rebate must be for a different appliance category such as a freezer and a dishwasher but not two freezers.

The rebate payment will be mailed to your Texas address.

PURCHASE of the appliance(s) by Texas consumers must start no sooner than April 16, 2010 for refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers and room air conditioners, and the purchase period ends April 25, 2010 for these types of appliances. Because purchases may occur at the time of installation for central air conditioners, hot water heaters and air-source heat pumps, these products should be purchased between April 16, 2010 and up to 60 days from the rebate reservation or waitlist request date.

All appliances MUST be installed in your Texas residence, and the rebate form(s), copy of receipt and supporting documentation must be postmarked within 60 days from the rebate reservation or waitlist request date.

4. Who is Eligible?

To qualify for the Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program you must be a Texas resident with a valid Texas residential address and satisfy all program rules. You must replace an old, but functional appliance from the qualifying appliance list that includes refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, clothes washers, dishwashers, central air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, hot water heaters with a new ENERGY STAR or CEE qualified model from a Texas retail location or contractor, depending on the appliance. Rebates are not available for new homes.

5. What appliances are eligible?

For a full list of the qualifying appliances and specifications, please visit the following website: http://www.texaspowerfulsmart.org/rebate/appliances.php

6. How much in rebates can I receive?

Rebate levels are determined by the appliance type and energy efficiency.

7. When can I use the rebate to purchase an appliance?

PURCHASE of the appliance(s) by Texas consumers must start no sooner than April 16, 2010 for refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers and room air conditioners, and the purchase period ends April 25, 2010 for these types of appliances. Because purchases may occur at the time of installation for central air conditioners, hot water heaters and air-source heat pumps, these products should be purchased between April 16, 2010 and up to 60 days from the rebate reservation or waitlist request date.

8. Can I shop anywhere with the appliance rebate?

No online purchases will qualify for the rebate. The purchase must be made at a Texas retail store or from a Texas contractor.

9. What are some of the important restrictions?

All appliances MUST be installed in your Texas residence, and the rebate form(s), copy of receipt and supporting documentation must be postmarked within 60 days from the rebate reservation or waitlist request date. The rebate payment will be mailed to your Texas address. Any P. O. Box address must also list the street address or the rebate will not be processed. No purchases for new homes will qualify. The program rebate is available for replacement of existing old, functional appliances on the qualifying list.

10. Is there a bonus rebate for consumers who recycle their old appliances?

The state will be working with retailers and recycling facilities to create a system to help consumers replace functional old appliances and recycle them where available for $75 for each bonus rebate, for up to two qualifying appliances. Details will be available on the rebate application and will require the appropriate documentation. Recycling will not be required; however you will be required to submit evidence of proper disposal of the old, functional appliance.
